The drive up to Rincon de la Vieja park was an interesting one. The roads out here are mostly gravel and not nice soft small gravel. It´s very bumpy, but Ticos are used to it. These are pictures from our drive up in a cool old jeep. The taxi driver stopped and picked us some local fruits to eat.
We went to Rincon de la Vieja park and stayed at a nicer hotel than we will probably stay at in the next few months. There wasn´t much else around, so we went over our budget. It was VERY nice though and no scorpions OR spiders! It was on a ranch (hacienda) and there was wildlife all around! We even heard them all in the middle of the night - roosters, dogs, cows, horses, etc. Crazy! A Costa Rican squirrel had fallen out of a tree and the staff was keeping it and feeding it milk - it was so cute!

from personal experience I can tell you that squirrels that grow up being fed by humans will eventually want to feed on humans. Watch out.
I love this Blog. Its the next best thing to being there with you. - Glen
I totally agree with Glen - especially as I enjoy your trip from my windowless cubicle back here in SD.
