Here's a picture of Scott at the top with some gorgeous scenery behind him. We hiked all of the way back down that day and drove back to San Diego to go to work again the next day!
Here I am looking over the top - quite a drop off right there!
Scott and I made it to the top - 14,496 feet - this is the highest point in the Continental US. Awesome!
We camped out at around 12,000 feet and woke up at 2AM to start again. It was nice hiking in the dark with our headlamps because there were SO MANY stars! This is a picture close to the top of the sunrise. At this point, even though exhausted, we felt exhilarated!
We stopped at Lone Pine lake along the way to take a break. Hiking with our big packs was exhausting!
This was a site from along our hike. It was beautiful beyond words.
See the big peak in the middle? That is Mount Whitney - at almost 14,500 feet! This picture was taken the day before the hike began from our campsite at the bottom (well, still at 6,000 feet).
This is Tara (my best friend from high school) and I in Miami. I went to Ft. Lauderdale for work and stayed over a weekend with Tara. South Beach was FUN!
Scott and I hiked this ~15 mile hike up to almost 11,000 feet. I was exhausted but it was exhilarating to reach the top. The marathon training did not even start to prepare me for the type of shape you need to be in to hike in altitude.
This was at a dueling piano bar for my birthday. They had me get up on both pianos and whenever they sang 'Gator' I was supposed to lift up my arms and legs. The funny thing was that they said it about 10 times before I even realized. I was so excited to be there that I wasn't even listening!
